Abstract
ECONOMIC INTEGRATION BETWEEN BRAZIL AND ARGENTINA AND ITS CONSEQUENCES FOR THE AUTOMOBILE SECTOR
The expressive participation of automotive sector in economy, makes it highly strict and object of governmental policies and actions. By and large, The Economical Complement Agreement 14 (ECA-14) was established between Brazil and Argentina with the intent of regulating the regional trading market. Its main feature was the elimination of reciprocal trading tariffs, starting 1995. Tariff changes may result in benefits, such as trade creation, or in costs related to trade diversion. This work was aimed to analyzing the international market performance of Brazilian automotive sector, with emphasis to commercial trading established by ECA-14. The performance of Brazilian automotive sector had an expressive evolution both in import and export trading, and Argentina was the main business partner, although the exported values to Brazil were higher than those imported, what may suggest that Argentina was the major beneficiary of ECA-14.
